Mal Pais is translated as ¨bad lands¨ but it is anything but that. A bunch of the Rainsong volunteers (six girls) decided to head down to the very tip of the peninsula to Mal Pais. Its a small town that literally consists of 6 blocks. and after that is the neighboring town called Santa Teresa which starts immediately and consists of a another 5 blocks or so. Mal Pais is famous for its great beaches and waves for surfing. There are surfers from all over that hang out in this town. The shore line is pretty rocky though. I swam in it at low tide with my french friend, Manu, and it wasn´t bad. The water was 75 degrees and the waves were nice. Our farm host (Mary) has friends all over Costa Rica and had hooked us up with a cheap deal to stay in Mal pais. We got 2 cabinas with a view of the beach (25 FEET AWAY) and 2 hammocks and 6 rockingchairs on the porch at 15 dollars per person. Not only that but our hotel had a huge reggae party that was going on that same night we were there and the whole town of Mal Pais went! It was really fun to practice our spainish with the local Ticos and dance to reggae (literally next to the shoreline) under the moon! What a surreal experience. It was picture perfect! Great people, everyone is ridiculously kind and easy going.
Anyway, I´m back on the farm today (Cabuyo) and will be here until wednesday for sure. We might stay longer just because we are already accepted with a lot of the locals there.
Pura vidA!

I'll bet that the cabana beats the apartment that you were at this summer. 15 feet away from the water is so cool. the waves must be a be a kind of lullaby. On a different note a big enough wave and you'll be surfing when you're in bed. :) Here's hoping that you continue having the greatest time of your life so far.
That reggae party on the beach sounds like lots of fun. Have fun and be safe... and take your vitamins.
